When we started our dance classes, we never imagined the impact they would have on our community. But from the very first class, we could see the difference it was making. People were getting up and moving, enjoying themselves, and starting to build relationships with each other. The dance classes have become a great way for people to come together and stay active. They’ve also been a great way for us to get to know our neighbours and build full, healthy lives. We’re so glad we started these classes, and we hope they continue to bring people together for many years to come.
Making Changes NE managed to secure funding from The National Lottery in order to offer free classes in commercial dance at Pegswood Welfare! Our 12-week course was open to everyone, and no experience was necessary.
In the heart of this resilient mining village, and despite facing economic challenges, Pegswood thrives with its tight-knit community. By offering free dance classes, we are able to provide opportunities for members of the community to nurture creativity, and foster unity through the magic of dance. The classes have been a great success so far, and the people of Pegswood seem to be really enjoying themselves. We’re glad we could bring this opportunity to them, and we hope to continue doing so for as long as they want to keep dancing. Thanks for your support!
I, personally, had not danced in years! I felt very nervous, especially after having a child and feeling like I had lost my mojo when it came to dancing. TJ, our dance instructor, had a knack for making us all feel comfortable – with a knack for bringing out the silly and the sassy. He helped boost my confidence and made me fall in love with dancing again.
During our end-of-session survey, we found that 75% of service users found the sessions beneficial to their well-being, 50% reported it helped improve feelings of loneliness/ isolation and 100% of people wanted to attend more sessions.
