Combating loneliness and isolation by building Communitines Through Education and Experiences
Making Changes NE
Welcome to Making Changes NE, an organisation based in Newcastle upon Tyne, Gateshead and Northumberland. We work to build communities through education and activities; while improving mindfulness and wellbeing.
We don’t just work on finding new community-based hobbies, we also enable the development of valuable life skills such as mindfulness, exploring emotions, creative writing and so much more; skills that allow you to be the best you can be, without any barriers.
Our classes are for all age ranges meaning you can spend quality time learning alongside your children and getting the kids involved in extracurricular activities or learning a new skill/ finding a new hobby for yourself all whilst making new friends in an environment where people have similar interests to you.
When we work in different communities, our first priority is to set up a steering group in order to speak directly with the community about what they want and need. To join our steering group, email: [email protected]
A little overview of what we've done so far...
Explore new hobbies such as sewing, gardening, toddler yoga, mindfulness, creative writing, canoeing and cooking and crafts.
The sewing classes have been a great way for attendees to make friends with people with similar interests. Every attendee got the opportunity to socialise in a safe environment, even throughout the pandemic. Attendees could fine-tune their skills or learn from scratch with a professional tutor.
Yoga with Toddlers has so much to offer, it’s the best (and safest) way to help children and families learn coping and emotional regulation techniques. Fun-filled, socially distanced classes allowed caregivers to bond with their children, exercise and make friends. There are many benefits to doing yoga with your toddler.
Our cooking and crafts sessions were designed for families with children aged 2 to 7 living to create budget-friendly, nutritious dishes while also participating in creative activities while the food was cooked. The families that attended enjoyed bonding together through the powerful tool of cooking. Some of the scrumptious recipes the children cooked include pizza, pepper bowls, broccoli cauliflower cheese bites, peach crumble and pirate treasure cookies. While all these beautiful creations were cooking the children had a chance to take part in some food-related crafts. The good vibes and bonding time with the caregivers really inflated the room full of laughter and joy.
